Chuck Norris Was Here, By Ed Kuehneman

Photo courtesy USMC: Was Miami. AZ, ever "home" to Chuck Norris, "Walker - Texas Ranger"? Yes and no, says his cousin John Chism, who still lives in Globe-Miami with his two sisters and a brother, all cousins of the TV star. He says that Chuck never went to school in Miami, but he'd visit his cousins in Little Acres in the summer, and he worked at the Safeway in downown Miami, on Adonis and Main. Chuck was just a typical kid, says Chism. He didn't get into martial arts until he was in the Air Force. He had two brothers; one died in Vietnam and one is a producer. They live in Texas, as does their mother. Sometimes Chuck will fly her in to Cutter, (outside Globe) and leave her in Globe-Miami for a while for a long visit. Chuck is just a regular guy when he's in town, making himself at home with his cousins, but when people spot him, they swarm after him. They’ll even interrupt a funeral for an autograph, but Chism says, "That’s the price of fame and fortune."

June 18t workshops include: "Adventnres in Rhythm", ages 7-9, and "Rockin’ Recorders" ages 10 & up, both conducted by Linda Gustafson. Both are an excellent introduction to instrumental music. They also explore movements to bring the mask "to life" under the direction of Suzanne Lederman. This is truly "hands- on , basic theater". June 8th workshops are: "Musical Boom Whackers©" instructed by Carol Rios. Leave it to Carol to find a wacky, fun way to experience instrumental music, play Beethoven and rock and sing, too. This is for ages 7 & up. "Puppets and Story" is for ages 5- 8, & 9-12. Karen Webb will help each child make a puppet of their own design. They will also write a puppet play, with Suzanne, using their puppet character and perform it on the last day.
