Annual Breakfast Meeting Honorees, By Pearl Nancarrow

Pictured:Honorees (l-r) Betty Waters, Judy Scarborough, Henrietta Alvarez (missing: Emilie Kanon) The Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma honored four members on Saturday, May 2nd at a breakfast at Country Kitchen. The honorees were: Emilie Kanon, 25 year membership; Betty Waters, 25 year membership; Judy Scarborough, 50 year membership; and Henrietta Alvarez, 50 year membership. The ladies were given 25 and 50 year membership pins for their long and dedicated service to Delta Kappa Gamma. Delta Chapter also has chosen a grant-in-aid scholarship recipient for the 2008-2009 year. Delia Reed, a senior at Globe High School was our guest at the breakfast. Delia will be going to college to become a teacher, and she will be receiving $400.00 from Delta Chapter. Congratulations, Delia! Also recognized and honored was Mary Jane Pastor, a Delta member who is retiring from teaching this year. The meeting was concluded with a Ceremony of Remembrance for our dear departed member, Beth Sage. Delta Kappa Gamma is a national organization of women teachers founded in 1929, (80years ago). DKG promotes and advances professional interest and position of women in education; endows scholarships to outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study; and grants fellowships to women from other countries. DKG stimulates personal and professional growth of its members; supports legislation in the interests of education; and keeps members informed of current economic, social, political and educational issues. On a local level, we provide a grant-in-aid to up to three local high school students who go into the field of education each year. We honor our local members for outstanding achievement, long term membership, and upon retirement.
