SYMTP Announces Summer Workshops

Summer will be here soon! The Summer Youth Musical Theater Program at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts is gearing up for its 2009 season. SYMTP will be offering a variety of Theater Arts workshops for ages 5 through High SchooL These are a great way to add color and creativity to the vacation. All workshops are held mornings, Monday through Friday, in the Old Courthouse Theater facilities on the third floor of the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts (CVCA). MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Registration begins at the CVCA, 101 N. Broad Street in Globe, on May 11th. Some of the sessions fill up quickly. There are financial aid scholarships available to children for whom the tuition would be prohibitive. One week sessions run the weeks of June 1st: Masks and Movement, Adventures in Rhythm, Rockin Recorders, and June 8th - Puppets and Story and Musical Boomwhackers©. These are "hands-on" experiences where children ages 5 through 12 , (ages vary with the particular session), make all the creative choices guided by the staff of teacher/artists. The Musical Theater workshop, ages 8 through High School, is five weeks long and will be presenting Disney's "Jungle Book, Kids" in Youth Matinees, public SYMTP Announces Summer Workshops performances and nursing home concerts. All the participants appear onstage singing, acting and dancing. They also help with the scenery, props and other parts of the production. One of the most exciting parts of the program is the staff, which includes Diana Tunis, Carol Rios, Linda Gustafson, Karen Webb, Laura Belvado and Suzanne Lederman. They are all excited about their art and really like working with young people. If you wish more information about the program, please call Suzanne Lederman at 425- 0844.
