Teens in ACTION is a volunteer organization that strives to encourage Aspiring teens to become Career oriented through Team building, Innovation, Outreach in the community, and Networking to find resources that will help them achieve their goals. The group was formed with the commitment of both parents and high school teens and is open to all area high school and home school students in grades 9-12. The group has several activities planned to help facilitate resources for career planning and secondary education. A few of the upcoming activities and programs include; group community service outings, scholarship information sessions, career mentoring/ job shadowing programs, and college campus visits. Teens in Action also supports the use of the local Boys and Girls Club of Globe and the many educational and career oriented services they offer. A group of students from Teens in ACTION recently traveled to Tucson and participated in the UofA Student Ambassador Tour. The students and their families had a brief presentation of college academics, the history of the University, the library/media center, and much more. The students also had the opportunity to tour a residence hall, and the Student Union. It was a great tour and the students gained valuable insight as to what to expect on a large college campus. Teens in ACTION has other campus visits planned for future dates. Thank you to DJ Lott, for providing information about the Boys and Girls Club programs that can be offered to teens. We also wish to thank three graduating Seniors in the 2009 class: Torrie Yerkovich, Ellery Freeman, and Roderick Garcia. Thank you for sharing your individual stories of how you took it upon yourselves to learn about the college application process. Congratulations on your acceptances and scholarships! By sharing your stories with the students, you are inspiring them to do the same. You are truly examples of how "ACTIONS speak louder than words!" Our next monthly meeting will be held at Cobre Valley Community Hospital room on May 14, 2009, at 6:00 PM. It is located next to the pharmacy, through the double doors and first room to the right. Globe Head Start Enrollment

Our local Head Start programs will be closing for the summer on May 15. That leaves just 2 weeks for families to enroll children for the fall program. Please print this notice so that we can get as many children lined up for enrollment as possible. There is a chance that we could receive more funds to have 12 children in a Home-Based program, but we must have enough children to fill it. We appreciate your help in reaching needy families. Head Start is seeking children for a free preschool program that provides activities to prepare children for Kindergarten. The preschool provides a comprehensive program that checks children for hearing, vision, speech, health and developmental concerns. Children are also provided healthy meals and snacks, and active outdoor play. Only 2 weeks remain to apply, as both Globe & Miami Head Start will be closed for the summer on May 15th. To qualify, children rnust be 3 by August 31, and be either low-income, have a disability, or be a foster child. Children being raiscd by grandparents may qualify as well. To complete an application, guardians need to bring the child's immnunization record, birth certificate or guardianship paper, and proof of income for the past year. For more information, or to fi nd out about Early Head Start, please call 928-425-9610 or 928- 473-3640. Sincere Thanks, Ricki Williams
