Globe's Tarango Earns State Champion Silver Medal

Casillas:2009 Globe High School graduate, Damon Valencia, is one of six seniors from the Tiger's State Champion Baseball Team to earn a spot in the 3A All-Star Game on June 6: Six players from the Tiger’s Championship team have been selected to play in this week’s 3A Senior All-Star Game, being held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6. 2009 G.H.S. graduates, Damon Valencia, Vince Buzan, Brady Wager, Jon Nelson, Kyle Quiroz, and Gabe Valtierra have each been named to the 3A South All-Star Team. Also, Globe Head Coach, David Lopez, will be in the dugout as the coach of that South team. The game will be played at the same location as the 3A State Championship game, Surprise Sports Stadium, located near the 101 and Bell Road.

Pictured:2009 GHS graduate, Brooke Horta, was named to the 2009 First Team All-State list., The Arizona Republic has released its list of the top 1A thru 3A baseball and softball players of 2009. Globe's Brooke Horta was the only area softball player to make the list, as she was named First Team All-State as an out-fielder. Safford freshman, Aundria Zuniga- Romero was named Second Team All-State. Of the 13 baseball players named to the First Team All- State list, four are from the local area. Globe Junior, Billy Kidd, and 2009 Globe graduate, Brady Wager, 2009 Hayden graduate, Rico Larona and Payson's Ridge Halenar each earned the First Team honors. Second Team honors went to Payson's Weston Gibson and Ray High School's Craig Cook. Hayden's Francisco Felix, Globe's Zach Powell, and Gabe Valtierra, as well as Miami's C.J. Young were each given an honorable mention.
Tiger Football Team Works to Earn Community Support

Pictured:Globe Football Coach, Eric Hjalmarson, members of his staff and a group of players take a break from cleaning the area in front of Joe's Broad Street Grill on Saturday: First-year Tiger Football Coach, Eric Hjalmarson, introduced himself to some downtown business owners on Saturday, as he and members of his team took part in a Saturday morning community service project. Coach Hjalmarson and the Tigers swept sidewalks, picked up trash and washed windows along Broad St, in an effort to earn support for an upcoming Globe High School Football Golf Tournament, being held on June 20, at the Apache Stronghold Golf Course. The four-man scramble tournament, is $60.00 per person and is set to begin with a 7:00 a.m. Shotgun start. All corporate, small business and personal sponsors are welcome to take advantage of this valuable advertising and networking opportunity. Coach Hjalmarson would also like to inform those interested in playing football, that the weight room is open to 7th thru 12th graders Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The team is also taking part in speed camp from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Harbison Field.
Registration for 3 on 3 Hoops League in Florence
The Town of Florence Parks and Recreation is now accepting registrations for the Hoop 'N Shoot Summer 3 on 3 Teen Basketball League. Those interested can sign-up at the Florence Parks and Recreation Office and Fitness Center , located at 133 North Main Street . The deadline to register is Friday, June 12th. The League is open to teens who are between the ages of 11 and 16. Ages are determined as of September 1, 2009. There are two categories: those between the ages of 11 and 13, and teens between the age of 14 and 16. You can make your own team up or if you don't have a team we will make a team for you. The league begins on June 17th. Games will be played one night a week on Wednesday evenings at the Florence Middle School Gym. There is fee of $20 per participant. Miami Volleyball Camp June 15 - 18
Miami High School Volleyball Program will be holding Summer Volleyball Camp for youth in the community. The camp will be held at Miami High School on June 15-18. Registration will begin Monday, June 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Hall of Fame Coach, Cherry Roberds, and her staff will be coaching two camps for beginner age groups (4th grade through 7th grade) and advanced age groups (8th grade through 12th). The camps will take place in both the Lee Kornegay and Miami High School gyms. Cost for the week will be $50.00. If there are multiple members of the same family, the price will be reduced for each additional family member. Parents or guardians must sign a registration and medical release form before the camper will be allowed to participate. Don't forget to bring your own knee pads if you have them.
