Catfishing at Night, By Susan K

Well, it's back to triple-digits in the deserts, so why not try some night fishing. Here are tome tips for catching catfish at night. Many fishermen would agree fishing at night has produced the best results. Catfish are night feeders and after 8pm at night look out! If you want to catch fish, really catch fish, live bait from the lake you are fishing in is the only way to go. In my experience you up the number of fish you catch by at least 60% by using live bait. Seining is legal at Roosevelt and Apache Lake but you may not take the live bait from the lake and it's best to use a net 3"x 10" or smaller. Any larger is out of regulation. You can pick up a seining net at your local Walmart or at most bait shops. Seining (catching live bait with a large net) can be as much fun as fishing. If you don't want to catch live bait you can buy worms or minnows at any local bait shop. You will find channel catfish and flathead catfish in Roosevelt and Apache lake. The best nightfishing waters for channel cats are deep waters. It’s also a good idea to organize all of your catfishing gear before leaving home. Clean out unnecessary equipment. Have poles rigged and ready to go. Organize your tackle box. You don’t want to waste time fum bling around in the dark trying to tie hooks or locate specific items of tackle when you could be fishing instead! Know exactly where you’ll fish when darkness falls. Prospect during daylight hours, and be sure you can find each fishing spot after nightfall if you leave and return. Select alternate sites in case of a change in plans. Mosquitoes are night creatures, too, so insect repellent is a must (on you but never your bait). You'll need a good lantern, and if you’re bank-fishing, a lawn chair and some rod holders and have a great time. Oh, and don't forget your AZ fishing license.
