Salsa & Hot Air Balloons in Safford

Celebrate Arizona’s Salsa Trail® at the hottest event in Southern Arizona- the 2nd Annual EuroFresh Farms SalsaFest on Friday & Saturday September 26 & 27, in the City of Safford Town Square.  Downtown Safford will be aglow with hot air balloons on Friday evening as festivities begin in the historic town square. 

   Join in the fun listening to live entertainment, eating delicious food, and sampling some of the greatest salsas in the Southwest.  SalsaFest activities include a salsa making contest, a Festival Marketplace, Salsa music & dancing, food demonstrations, chili roasting, a kids area, a special Salsa Walk to benefit the Gila Valley Boys & Girls Club, an evening hot air balloon glow & Saturday morning sunrise lift off, and Jalapeño & Salsa Eating competitions.  Entry forms for the competitions and event information are available online at www.SalsaTrail.com

Meeting in Thatcher About Budget Crisis

   Business and community leaders from across Gila, Graham, and Greenlee counties and members of the public are invited to learn more about the continuing budget deficit facing our state. Senator Sylvia Allen, and Representative Konopnicki will be co-hosting a conference to inform and receive public input about the budget situation. This deficit is impacting the ability of our state, cities, and counties to be able to move forward with future planning.

   State Treasurer Dean Martin will give an in-depth presentation of projected state revenues to spur discussion on the continuing deficit’s effect on cities and counties and how it impacts critical decisions.

   The event will take place at the Lee Theater at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, AZ (corner of Hwy. 70 and Stadium Ave.). It will begin at 2 p.m. and go on till 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008.

All Are Invited to the Gila County Fair and the 4-H Jr. Livestock Auction

The auction will be held Sunday September 21, at 1:00 p.m. The 4-H and FFA youth have been working hard these past months to make sure their animals will be ready for the Fair. If you are interested in purchasing an animal at the auction, but don’t feel you may have the finances, or can’t use the meat there are options available to you:

1. You and or a group can go in together and puchase an animal, splitting the cost as well as the meat.

2.You can purchase the animal and donate it back for resale with the proceeds going to a non-profit organization.

3. Purchase an animal and donate the meat to the Food Bank, women’s shelter or someone of your choice.

Please come out and support the area youth and watch the auction even if you are not able to participate.

Miami Fiesta De Libertad

Join the Town of Miami Saturday September 13, for Mexican Independence Day. The celebration starts with a parade at 9:30 a.m. There will be music and dancing throughout the day. Bring your Chihuahua and check-in for the World Famous “Corridas De Chihuahuas” (chihuahua race.) The race will begin at 3:00 p.m. Bring the kids to enjoy the Pinata Breaking celebration. Bring your best salsa and recipe for the “Best Salsa” contest. Enter the “Jalepeno” eating contest or the “Grito” contest.
