SOS Flag Day Ceremony
June 23, 2008 | Leave a Comment

It was an evening of patriotic celebration last Friday at the Court House in Globe. Folks gathered together from the community to remember our nation’s flag. Ellen O’Mallia of the Gila County S.O.S. hosted the event. Patriotic songs were sung, patriotic poems were read, and a history of the American flag was recited.
The San Carlos Apache Veterans Assn. Honor Guard presented the colors and remained at attention through the duration of the program. The Boy Scouts, Brent Cline’s Troop 101, carried the historical flags as the history of each was delivered.
Finally, Chuck Willis of the Joe Foss Institute delivered the flag folding ceremony with the assistance of Boy Scouts Johnny Griffin, and Denton Cline. The Joe Foss Institute was created to promote patriotism in schools, and to teach students about such things as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of rights, honor, duty, etc. There are presentations appropriate for K-12. All presenters are veterans. For more info. visit www.jfiweb.org, or call 928-425-2083.
Letter of Thanks From SOS

Gila County SOS would like to thank the Globe-Miami Gun Club and Desert Eagle Gun Shop for making our annual Gun Shoot such a wonderful success. It takes a lot of hard work on the part of many to pull things together and this was no exception. We would like to thank the ladies and gentlemen of the Gun Club for running the events and ensuring the safety of all during the shoot. Special thanks to Boris and the Desert Eagle Gun Shop for once again supplying the machine guns and .50 cal rifle for us to shoot. To all who attended and supported us during the shoot, thank you as well. Without the support of the community and organizations like the Gun Club, we would not be able to pack and mail our “miracle” packages of love and support to our local young men and women serving in harm’s way. Several of those who have received our packages have returned home to thank us for the support and for thinking of them as they make their sacrifices so far from home. We have been told that at times when things looked the darkest for them, returning to base and finding one of our packages waiting was such a lift for their spirits. Thanks to all who had a hand in the success of our shoot and allowing us to continue this great work.
Please join us next year on Armed Forces Day in May of 2009 for the 3rd Annual Gila County SOS Gun Shoot. Please continue to wear Red on Friday to show your support!

Jahmal Valadez Supports Our Troops

Jahmal Valadez wears his camouflage uniform every Friday to show his support for our troops. Jamal, a Kindergartner in Mrs. Gardea’s class at Copper Rim School in Globe, has been wearing his uniform every Friday since his aunt Irvalene Gilson served in Iraq. She returned to the area months ago but Jahmal continues to show his support for our troops.
