Bill Robles

Mr. Bill Robles passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 16, 2023, at the age of 85. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Carlota Robles. Bill had five other siblings and was the youngest child of Ms. Carlota Robles.

In his teenage years, Bill worked in the Chrysotile Asbestos Mine near Salt River Canyon and the Angel Wings Asbestos Mine near Young, Arizona.

He worked in all facets of the asbestos mining industry, including the mill at the end of Hackney Ave. in Globe where they milled and packaged the bags, then loaded and hauled the bags to the warehouse where the Pickle Barrel store is now located. When the train came into town, Bill loaded the 100-lb. bags into the train 15 bags high.

Bill enjoyed weight lifting and was an avid exerciser up until the last year of his life. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran and worked in the Hollywood movie industry with his sister Lydia.

Upon his return to Globe, Bill helped his brother Benny in the janitorial business at the Alden and Globe Theaters and First National Bank. Bill was also employed in the janitorial business at Globe City Hall and Globe School District.

In his retired years, he enjoyed gardening, landscaping and partying with several of his friends in and around Globe.

Bill requested private services and will be entombed in the mausoleum at the Veterans National Cemetery in North Phoenix, with his friends and family.

Bill also thanked Thema Hospice Care, in Globe, for their assistance, and requested that any donations be made to Thema.
