Downtown Association plans Virtual Halloween Block Party

Posted

Attention witches, ghosts, and vampires: the annual Halloween Block Party, cancelled due to Covid-19, will move to a virtual setting this year. “We know that we are better together, yet safer apart,” said Event Coordinator Molly Cornwell. “Bringing together 7,000 of our closest friends, neighbors, families and out-of-town guests just cannot go forward and be a fun and safe time for all.”

This virtual event is set to be unconventional but exciting. With any luck participating online will attract a number of new enthusiastic entries. Plans include a costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, and a storefront decorating contest. The contests will start Oct. 20 and end on Nov. 3. Everyone can participate, win prizes, vote in the people’s choice vote for costumes, carved pumpkins, and decorate their storefronts and homes for a chance at the prize pool.

How to Enter

Participants can share photos or videos to the Globe Historic Downtown Facebook page, send to their message box or email  them at historicglobeaz@gmail.com. All voting will be tallied from the Globe Historic Downtown Facebook page. There will be both People’s Choice Voting and Judges Choice Voting.

2020 Virtual Carved Pumpkin Contest

Submit photos or videos for a chance to win big in the annual carved pumpkin contest. The categories are as follows: Carved ages, zero to seven, eight to 12, 13 to 18, adult, and ringer; painted/decorated ages, zero to seven, eight to 12, 13 to 18, adult, and ringer, and best pumpkin grouping. There are no limits on entries per person, but every pumpkin must be different. Pumpkins may however be entered in both the individual and group categories.

Entries can be Globe, Miami, San Carlos and other residents. So invite friends and family from out of town to participate too. Winners will be named in every category and receive a certificate, bragging rights and a Globe Historic Downtown Prize to pick-up. Entries are due no later than Nov. 3, 2020 at 11:45 p.m.

2020 Virtual Costume Contest

There is no limit on this year’s virtual costume contest, in fact the Globe Downtown Association is encouraging participants to pull out the old costumes and create more than one entry for this contest. There is no limits on how many entries per person or per group, as long as each costume or grouping is different. “Have fun with it, family zombies and pizza night, burgers and monsters night, or ninjas and sushi, anyone? said Cornwell. “The sky’s the limit.”

Categories include: Most boo-tiful ages, zero to four, five to nine, 10 to 14, 15 to 18, adult, group, and pet; Scariest ages, zero to four, five to 9, 10 to 14, 15 to 18, adult, group, and pet; Most Original ages, zero to four, five to nine, 10 to 14, 15 to 18, adult, group, and pet. For more information on how the contest will be judged visit the Globe Main Street Program Facebook page or the Globe Historic Downtown Facebook page.

2020 Virtual Decoration Contest

Storefronts, homes, offices/workplaces, and schoolrooms will all be up for judging in the virtual decoration contest. Categories include: Most Boo-tiful, Scariest, Most Original, Just Fall, and Surprise Judges Categories. This contest is open to Globe, Miami, San Carlos and Copper Corridor residents. Please include the participants town and name of business or school when entering.
