Gold Canyon Arts Council announces 2022-23 concert lineup

The Gold Canyon Arts Council has released the lineup for their 2022-2023 Canyon Sounds Performance Series - a roster that will include an Irish classical pianist and a Canadian family of fiddlers and dancers.

The series – five concerts presented annually by the Arts Council – kicks off Friday, Nov. 18, 2022 with “Poet of the Piano” John O’Conor, who earned the title with his formidable technique, mastery of keyboard color and unique sound. This Irish classical pianist, through his concert appearances and critically acclaimed recordings, is a masterful interpreter of the Classic and Early Romantic piano repertoires. The ticket includes a lecture/recital and master class by O’Conor on Nov. 19 at 12 p.m.

The coming season will also feature the following artists (all concerts, including O’Conor’s, will take place at 7 p.m.):

* Folk Legacy Trio Friday, Jan. 13, 2023

This fabulous group is made up of former members of The Kingston Trio, The Limelighters and The Diamonds. With their signature dynamic harmonies, they will take you down Memory Lane with songs from the great ‘50s to ‘70s folk era – including songs by Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel, The New Christy Minstrels, Judy Collins and many others.

* The Black Market Trust Friday, Feb. 10, 2023

This pop/vocal/instrumental group from Los Angeles combines the songs and sounds of legendary American crooners with the fire and energy of Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. These five world-class musicians have traveled the globe performing on the world’s biggest stages.

* The Fitzgeralds Friday, Feb. 24, 2023

This Canadian family of fiddlers and dancers are Grandmaster Fiddle and Ontario Open Step Dance Champions. They present an eclectic program of jigs and reels, bluegrass, Celtic and show-stopping Ottawa Valley step dancing, with novelty dance routines and friendly banter that make for a truly unforgettable musical experience.

* Black Oak Ensemble Friday, March 24, 2023

Praised for their insightful and masterful performances, and fierce eloquence, this young trio is one of the most innovative  chamber ensembles on the international stage, presenting exciting programs from Bach to the music of today.

All performances will be held at Gold Canyon United Methodist Church, 6640 S. Kings Ranch Rd. in Gold Canyon. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door; tickets for K-12 students are $5. The Gold Canyon Arts Council’s non-profit mission is arts education for underserved students in regional schools, to which the council donates instruments, music and visual arts lessons, and supplies. The council’s performing artists also provide in-school tutorials, work shops and master classes. All council revenue goes toward its arts education mission.
