Madolina Porto

Madolina Flores Porto, age 82, passed away on Aug. 15, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on Aug. 15, 1939 to Ramona Acuna and Eudoro Flores Leal. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a wonderful friend. Madolina moved to Arizona in 1963 and she worked in various sewing factories in the Phoenix area. In 1967 she met and married Eugene Porto in Phoenix, Az. She went on to have four children: Eugene III in 1968, Robert in 1969, Claudia in 1972, and John in 1977. She also helped to raise her step-daughter Cheryl Ann and she and Eugene adopted their two grandchildren Chandra and Christopher.

Madolina was an incredibly gifted, talented seamstress. She made many glamorous, one-of-a-kind wedding dresses for countless brides throughout her life. She was also an incredible cook and she enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and anyone who visited. She took pride in all she did. She loved gardening and tending to her hundreds of various plants and flowers. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She devoted her life to her husband of 52 years, her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. 

She was a woman of incredible faith and immense compassion. The love she showed for those around her was inspiring and she was a shining example of faithfulness and loyalty.

Madolina found the Gospel light of Jesus at a very tender age and she followed it until her very last breath. She will be incredibly missed by so many.

Madolina is survived by her  children Cheryl Ann (Edward) Mendoza  of Globe, Az., Gene (Kate) Porto of Clinton, Utah, Claudia Bertoldo of Globe, Az., John Porto of Miami, Az., Christopher Porto (Crystal Tower) of Claypool, Az. and Chandra Porto (Ronnie Sanchez) of Claypool, Az., as well as her sisters Frances (Sergio) Lopez of Rio Rico, Az. and Felima (Benjamin) Acuna of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eudoro and Ramona Flores, her brother Abigial Flores and her husband Eugene Porto. In a devastating turn of events for the family, Madolina’s son Robert, age 52, of Columbia, SC passed away just four days later.

A Celebration of Life for both Madolina and her beloved son Robert Porto is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11 at Living Waters Church in Globe at 10 a.m. with interment to follow at Globe Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the IBEW Hall at 1383 N. AZ Highway 88 in Globe. All are welcome to join in celebrating both of their lives.
