Robert “Bob” Lee Skinner, 69, Miami, AZ
The mountains were calling one last time on Oct. 22, 2019 as Bob Skinner, 69, entered his eternal campsite where his parents Wesley and Faye Skinner were waiting to welcome him with an ice-cold beer.
Bob was born in Eureka, Kansas, on Sept. 23, 1950 and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., as a child. He eventually moved to Roosevelt, Ariz., before making Globe-Miami, Ariz., his home. Bob retired from the Miami Unified School District where he spent many years in various capacities.
Bob was world-renowned for his lack of patience, not holding back his opinion and a knack for telling it like it is. He always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. These words of encouragement and brutal honesty, with a few four-letter adjectives mixed in for flavor, kept us all in line and on our toes.
Bob was always a mountain man at heart. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, and go adventuring. Having two daughters didn’t cramp his love for the mountains. When he realized his daughters (mostly Carrah) where too prissy and delicate to rough it he bought an R.V.; we had countless adventures in that R.V. camping as a family. When Bob retired, he was able to make his favorite past time his full-time adventure. He was always just getting back from an adventure or getting ready to head out again. When he wasn’t out adventuring, he could be found somewhere with an ice-cold beer and a plate of tasty Globe-Miami Mexican Food. He was truly a dusty old relic that lived life on his own terms.
Bob leaves behind a loving family, who he tolerated (we know he loved us), including two amazing daughters who were truly the pride of his life, Carrah (Shane) Dodd and Robyn (Adam) Soberg, four grandchildren, Addyson, Abigail, Ryan, and Tate, his brothers Larry Wayne Skinner, Terry Skinner, his sister Dale Skinner Vanover, and his better half Linda Hovenstine.
Ultimately the mountains were calling, his campsite was ready even though we were not. He is now somewhere over the rainbow where it’s always hunting season, the fish are always biting, and the beer is always cold.
An open house celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019 from noon to 4:30 p.m. at The Train Depot, 230 S. Broad St. Globe, Ariz. 85501.
