Tuesday, Jan. 4, marked the commencement of work on the Globe Community Center swimming pool rehabilitation project, as workers started fencing off the project area. The pool is projected to reopen in July 2022.
The pool renovation, with an estimated cost of approximately $2.3 million, is being undertaken by Structural Preservation Systems. It will include basic repairs to the pool, which closed in 2014 due to leakage issues, a splash pad, zero entry, bulkhead, heater and swim team accessories.
Through a recently formed $1.5 million partnership with Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, the city also has plans to renovate the current pool building and entrance area, add large and small water slides, and put in a grass area and a roofed community building.
