Walk for Hope, March 2

Posted

This event was created and inspired by the death of Michael Tarango, a 28-year-old resident of Globe who passed away on March 4, 2015.

This is the fourth annual walk that invites everyone to join in taking a stand against the war of drugs. We address all things that cause hopelessness.

We invite all the towns resources, etc. etc. We are always sponsored by the Copper Basin Coalition, which finances and joins forces with us.

Every year is a bit different, as we try and focus on what is happening at the time. This year, unfortunately, is the Globe mass shooting.

Two of the victims are members of my family, and one a very close family friend. So, we know firsthand the devastation. I saw what these towns are capable of as they joined forces in support during a time of such tragedy, to show emotional support and fundraising and they continue, even now.

So, I decided to incorporate the hope and healing into this year’s event. It is faith-based, as I believe that Jesus is our only hope.

So many bad things happen, and we need to be each other’s resources. So, the survivor Charlene “Charlie” Peak, Breanna Licano (daughter to Cristi Licano) and the parents of both Daniel Albo and Ashley Sanchez will be introduced together and will speak to those who attend and simply to tell them thank you and they are still standing because of the people’s love and support.

I also do a balloon release of red (representing drug awareness) black (symbolizing death, as we never know when it can happen) and white, symbolizing hope.

Globe Mayor Al Gameros will be joining us as a speaker and a couple others. We will have a performance from Lynn’s School of Dance. A couple of songs sung by another and we give out free hotdogs.

So, this is it — Walk for Hope. I pray you join us.

The Walk for Hope will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 2, in Globe City Park, in front of the Municipal Building at 150 N Pine St.

The walk is scheduled begin at 10:30 a.m. The event will include Naloxone training (Narcan), speakers, resources, food, raffles and more.
