For the 2nd Friday program at Bullion Plaza Cultural Center & Museum on Feb. 9, author Venetia Hobson Lewis will present her book, “Changing Woman: A Novel of the Camp Grant Massacre.” Doors open at 6 p.m. for this free event.
Lewis’ novel is set in Tucson during the time of the Fort Grant massacre in 1871, and is centered around the characters of Valeria and Raul Obregón, and a 12-year-old Apache girl, Nest Feather, in Aravaipa Canyon. Against the backdrop of the massacre trial, Valeria and Nest Feather’s lives intersect in the church.
For nearly 18 years, Lewis was a corporate paralegal for a motion picture studio. She has written several award-winning Western short stories and hopes to tell more stories.
This novel was a finalist for the Best Fiction Western in the 20th Annual American Book Fest Awards.
