Betsy Ross Manning

Betsy Ross Manning, age 92, passed away Jan. 19, 2019. 

Betsy was born Oct. 4, 1926 in Globe, Ariz. to the late Jess G. Hayes (former Gila County School Superintendent) and the late Vivian Hayes. She was preceded in death by her husband George Manning and son Allan Manning. 

Betsy graduated from Globe High School, Arizona State College and earned master’s degrees at ASU and Georgetown University, Washington, DC. 

Betsy was a devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt. She has a strong love for family, friends, teaching, writing, American History, her church, crafting and acting. 

In the late 1950s Betsy wrote and was the star of the television program “Playmates,” which was broadcast live by KPHO Channel 5 in Phoenix. 

Betsy is survived by her son Frank Manning; daughter Minta Manning; brothers Bucky Hayes and Burton Hayes; sister Barbara McPherson, and three grandchildren. 

Betsy spent many enjoyable hours with her friends “The Mall Walkers” in Scottsdale and volunteering at the Phoenix Zoo. In her later years, Betsy was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
