Charlene “Charlie” H. Brown

Charlene “Charlie” H. Brown, 1951-2023 (Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Friend)

Today, the 29th day of July, our hearts are broken as we all mourn the loss of our beloved older sister, Charlene. Her bright light and big heart left us too soon, but we will remember her warmth, love, and generosity.

Charlene taught us all some fundamental lessons while she made her short journey through life, of which the most memorable was to get to know Jesus as your personal savior. She would say, “There is no other way but through Jesus, He is the way, the truth and the life,” and “Glory be to God and the Joy of the Lord is our strength” are a couple of phrases she continuously stated.

We will miss our big sister, as will those she impacted throughout her life, from friends and family to the work she did with the San Carlos Unified School District from where she retired.

Charlene H. Brown, 71, is survived by her only daughter Carrie Thompson, her son Mark Anthony Brown (Linda), her grandsons Andrew Brown and Cohen Brown, one great-grandson, Braden Rider Brown, her brothers Howard Hooke Jr. (Juanita), Harding Hooke (Selma), Councilman Simon Hooke and Malcolm Hooke (Sally), her sisters Cheryl H. Mull (Marvin Jr.), Karen Hooke-Johnson (Terry), Peggy Cassa and Cassandra Chewning (Jonathan), and many, many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Tommie Brown, her son Timothy Patrick Brown, her parents Howard Hooke Sr. and Nancy P. Hooke, and her two brothers, Hardt Hooke and Samuel “Chummy” Hooke.

Charlene was a private person; therefore, a one-day service was held in her memory. She was brought home one last time. The visitation was held from 4 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at her residence in Lower Peridot, Arizona.

Funeral Services were held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at the Michael Noline Activity Center in Peridot, Arizona.

Interment followed at the Peridot Cemetery. Lunch was served at the Michael Noline Activity Center after the burial.
