Mary Lou Brockert passed away peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 13, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Miami, Arizona. She was 88 years old and lived a full life. Mary Lou was a woman of many passions. But her number one priority was her family.
One thing all her kids could agree on is that Mary Lou was the best mom ever. She was a hardworking woman, a mentor and a great role model who was always there for us. Mary Lou was always involved in all the activities her children were involved in from baseball to softball, volleyball to cheerleading mom.
She graduated from Miami High School and went on to study interior design at Mesa Community College. She applied her interior design talents toward decorating showrooms for her and her husband’s plumbing store.
One of her biggest passions was helping her husband, Jim Brockert, launch and manage Brockert’s Plumbing Supply, which still operates on the corner of East Ash Street and South East Street. She was also a member of the Pinal Mountain Emblem Club, a chapter of the Supreme Emblem Club of the United States of America Inc.
Mary Lou worked for the Globe Active Adult Center and eventually became its director. She saw there was a need in the community, and she lit up when she saw the elderly and always wanted to make sure they were fed and cared for. She implemented Meals on Wheels for the elderly who could not make it to the center to eat. Through all of her work with the senior center Mary Lou was appointed to the Arizona Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging (GACA) by Gov. Rose Mofford, (D-Ariz.)
Working with the elderly really was her calling, but when her husband, Jim Brockert, became ill, she returned to the plumbing shop. Mary Lou continued to help her husband with the business until he passed away in 2011. Soon after, she began experiencing memory loss and was diagnosed with dementia which eventually forced her to close the shop.
Mary Lou spent her final two years in her daughter Sheila’s care, which truly was a blessing for her and the family. She is survived by her sister Betsy Moreno, children and grandchildren: Matthew Brockert, Mckenzie Brockert; Sheila Rodriguez (husband, Art Rodriguez), Yesenia Rodriguez, Byron Ellsworth (wife, Marcella Ellsworth), Krystal Ellsworth, Art Rodriguez, Blanca Rodriguez and Briano Rodriguez ( wife, Ashley Rodriguez); Earl Brockert (wife, Julie Brockert) Brenna Alleman ( husband, Jerod Alleman), Colton Brockert; Geneva Brockert.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Siamana Lou Brockert; Jiraiya and Amiyah Lou Ellsworth; and Roman, Stryder, and Titus Rodriguez.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband Jim Brockert, sister Ramona Daniels, and brothers Ernie Romero and David Romero.
Funeral services are scheduled for Nov. 18, 2024, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 201 S. Broad St., Globe, AZ, rosary 9:30 a.m. and mass at 10 a.m. She will then be memorialized at Globe Cemetery.
Celebration of life will follow services at the Globe Elks Club, 1910 E. Maple St. Globe, AZ.
