Eleanor Phillips

Thank you for being with us today to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, our mother Eleanor K. Phillips. Eleanor was born Sept. 28, 1929, and entered into rest on June 27, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

James Kitch Phillips Sr. married Eleanor on May 1, 1946. Our parents were blessed with 10 children: Larry Phillips, Wanda Hill, Brenda Shaw, Katherina Logan, Pamela Victor, James Kitch Phillips, Jr., Velena Peaches of Whiteriver, Ron Phillips, Gregory (deceased) and Gary Lee Phillips (deceased).

Eleanor is the daughter of Joe B. Kinney Sr. and Alice Tiffany-Kinney, who was a member of Fort McDowell Yavapai Tribe.

Our mother attended San Carlos Day School in San Carlos, Arizona. She worked as a bus driver and cook for Rice Day School. She worked as a firefighter in the BIA forestry department. Her last job was for San Carlos Apache Tribe. She was a cook for Seven-Mile elderly nursing home and Peridot nursing home. Our mother was a skillful quilter, seamstress, made camp dresses, clothing, and quilts. Our mom was even a pastor in Bylas, Arizona at the Bylas Assembly of God Church. We were in camp meetings, revivals, baptismal services, children, youth groups, churches and camps in Prescott, Arizona.

Eleanor had 23 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Alice Kinney; her husband, James Phillips, Sr.; and her sons Gregory and Gary Lee Phillips. She is survived by her sons Larry Phillips, Jimmy Phillips, Jr., and Ron Phillips; her daughters Wanda Hill, Brenda Shaw, Katherina Logan, Pamela Victor and Velena Peaches; and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on July 7, 2023, from 6 – 10 a.m. at the Apache Assembly of God Church in San Carlos, Arizona. Funeral Services were held on July 7, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Apache Assembly of God Church. Interment followed at Hilltop Cemetery in San Carlos.
